Growing up in Keighley, West Yorkshire, Ben Tallon loved Leeds United, wrestling and video games as a child. Keighley is an old, working class mill town, full of strange and loveable characters, and Ben himself has a taste for the unusual. He thinks anyone who’s been labeled a weirdo will have an intriguing story to tell.
Passionate about creativity, Ben has even burnt the end of a wine cork in order to draw with it. Today, he’s located in Bermondsey, London, but has previously had studios in Preston and Manchester.
Ben’s book Champagne and Wax Crayons has just been released, which follows Ben’s journey from his childhood hobby of drawing, to a freelance career working with clients in illustration, graphic design, music, film and television. Alongside his illustration work he’s also art directing a six-part science fiction series.

Training
Ben has a BTEC in Graphic Design from Keighley College, and a BA in Illustration from the University of Central Lancashire.

Approach
Pens, inks, brushes, found materials and textures, acrylics, spray paint, pastels, wax and coloured pencils – Ben is very much a mixed media creative. He’ll use worn out old brushes that have a little more depth and character than new ones, and favours the unexpected or happy accident.
==============================================================
Style
Able to draw anything at all, Ben’s highly flexible style is organic, using Photoshop to layer together the elements he’s created using natural media. Drawings, marks and textures come together to form a complete image. For him, it’s hard to complete a line drawing – he likes to keep it loose, and leave something to the imagination.
